We are always looking for the best ways to describe to you the world of soundproofing through introducing guides that range from the basic principles of sound, how to best soundproof surfaces and what to look for, and how to understand acoustic test data, and this is only naming a few! We want to help you come to the right decision, so whether this is through the use of our guides or talking to a member of our team - we are here to help!

How to soundproof floors

A combination of the following will always result in a much improved acoustic performance.

  • Mass: the addition of more substantial materials to reduce sound energy, for example, added layers combined with soundproof plasterboard.
  • Separation: breaking contact with the surface or surfaces through the use of acoustic isolation clips or stud framing.
  • Damping: the reduction of vibration through the use of flexible, damping materials such as Tecsound.

MuteDeck™  Adhesive is for use with MuteDeck™ 18mm, which is a cement particle board bonded together with chipboard to produce a solid and robust soundproofing platform. This adhesive will not improve acoustic performance, but will ensure the stability of the boards at their tongue-and-groove joints to create a successful floating floor And, it will also create an airtight seal. These properties attribute to both a strong performing separated system, with the reduction of air leakage, keeping in check the first two properties above.

We recommend the use of MuteDeck™ adhesive as it rules out any compatibility issues, any alternative would likely want to be tested to ensure it’s safely bonded together. MuteDeck™ is a cementitious particle board, so a blend of chipboard and cement impregnated together for a dense finish.

Our guidance is 1 tub per 25 boards, applied to each tongue and groove section - this can vary between installers depending on how generous they are with applying adhesives.
