MuteClip® (Patent Pending) Double Plus is our best performing solution for projects that require a ceiling soundproofing solution for concrete that is both very high performing and space-conscious at only 80mm. It creates fewer points of contact with the concrete soffit ceiling using the MuteClip®, which is composed of a dual-density rubber in a galvanised metal case that performs like a shock absorber. The MuteClip® Channel affixes to the MuteClip® and the new soundproof ceiling which is composed of a dense layer of SoundPlank 19mm, a layer of Tecsound and a layer of dense Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm suspend away from the concrete slab. What this ultimately results in a vastly improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing impact noise and other forms of light vibration which are often problematic in concrete constructions.
MuteClip® Concrete Double Plus is available for specification on a wide range of projects that include large scale residential builds, commercial properties for increased privacy, and even audio recording and audio editing environments that are limited in space. Installation is based on a standard 400mm joist spacing, and we recommend staggering the MuteClip® at 400mm in a grid configuration with a MuteClip at each end. MuteClip® Channels would also installed with a 600mm spacing with one located 100mm from top and bottom

It is also compliant with the required acoustic values for airborne and impact transmission featured in the Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, and we would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System. Scottish Building Regulations contain higher targets than that of Part E, and our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.

MuteClip® Concrete Double Plus is only slightly thicker than the MuteClip® Concrete Double by the installation of a 19mm SoundPlank as the first plasterboard layer, instead of the Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm. The increased mass over the entire area will help to reduce further airborne and impact noise that comes in the form of day-to-day conversations and occasional raised voices, television use and background noise use of small radio and music devices. Concrete structures lend themselves to poor isolation from Flanking Transmission, so you will want to investigate adjacent walls too to reduce sound moving to these vulnerable areas. We would expect an 8-12dB reduction of 40-67% of common household noise issues as an estimated guide. For excessive noise issues, we would recommend where possible to implement a more robust soundproofing solution for your ceiling.
Most common noises that are coming through a ceiling area would often be reduced to a more suited level, although this is a subjective measurement for the sensitivity of hearing differs from person to person, and also how we react to those specific sounds. Hearing neighbours talking is a familiar noise issue, and this system will look to reduce these down to a background noise level - which is the primary aim of any acoustic treatment.
When adequate soundproofing has been applied to any potential Flanking paths, the MuteClip® Concrete Double Plus would meet all requirements for airborne and impact noise issues concerning both new build concrete structures and conversions that are listed in the Part E Building Regulations. It is recommended to install an acoustic over screed or under screed - depending on your structure, to make sure appropriate isolation has been given to the flooring to both treat impact noise at source, and to reduce it transferring into the walls to create Flanking.
MuteClip® and it’s Channel were explicitly designed to make sure there was no possible way of creating fault during the installation phase, which is something that Resilient Channel are subject to, they can be over tightened, bent or even short-circuited to where a failure of acoustic tests is often found from these errors. MuteClip® offers superior acoustic performance against the reduction of low-frequency sound energy by providing lesser points of contact and materials that lend to a more competent suspension.
The abutting of rigid surfaces to one another is an easy path for sound to travel through, in this case, it is Flanking Transmission found in walls transferring back into the plasterboard when the isolation gap was to stop this, it is now short-circuiting the MuteClip® and Channel. Leave a gap between these measurements and run a bead of acoustic sealant down them to prevent issues with performance.
MuteClip® and Channel leave a void of 41mm making it suitable for installation of either 25mm or 30mm Acoustic Mineral Wool. Do not use a thicker size and compress between the concrete surface and SoundPlank as this will also short circuit the MuteClip®.
Any existing framework, plasterboard or other ceiling decorations should all be removed, including coving or cornice. Electronics will also require extending to the new depth to prevent wires from being too short in the installation phase, 79mm would be the new ceiling height.
