Floor Soundproofing

MuteMat 2 Premium

Take a look at the system’s features and benefits.

32dB ΔLw Impact Reduction*

Noises like footsteps on wood flooring and washing machines.

14 mm additional System Height

The height added to your floor after the system is installed.

We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.

A system for intrusive impact noise, this will help reduce even the most problematic of situations from above. It combines our MuteMat® 2 with Tecsound for additional protection. Easy to install.

Our MuteMat® 2 Plus Concrete system is our best performing acoustic solution for soundproofing concrete floors. It provides noise control for both homes and workplaces. This system reduces impact noise levels up to 30dB while offering you something slim with a strong performance against even the most intrusive sources of impact, including heavy foot traffic.

MuteMat® 2 is compressible, while still dense, offering both airborne and impact reduction qualities and is combined in a full system alongside Tecsound, a visco-elastic material that reduces vibration and breaks down sound energy by turning it into heat. It is these two materials combined that make it ideal for those looking to free yourself from even the most stubborn impact noises from heavy-footed workers to the dragging of furniture.

How to Soundproof concrete floors

  1. Roll out self-adhesive Tecsound making sure to join you edges. Tecsound has vibration dampening qualities to help reduce nosie transmission.
  2. Loose lay your MuteMat 2 acoustic underlay.
  3. Tape the joints of the MuteMat 2 with cloth tape.
  4. Install a perimeter flanking band around the perimeter of your floor to reduce flanking sound transmission.
  5. lay your floor finish on top of the MuteMat 2

A soundproofing system isn’t rocket science but sometimes figuring out which one is right for you can be challenging. Check out our FAQs, get in touch via our live chat, or give us a call to speak to a human.

Concrete structures harbour significant mass, and this mass means that there is the close proximity of molecules to where impact noise and structural borne vibration finds their way through – even with a high mass. We often find in flats and apartments that the footsteps or even dragging of furniture is one of the most pressing issues with neighbour complaints. Depending on yours and your neighbours’ agreement – they may be willing to fit MuteMat® 2 to help vastly improve impact noise, even when they are looking to trade off with a hard floor finish from what was once carpet. We would expect a 19dB reduction in concrete structures with any floor finish over the top and you will need to make sure that all floor levels are abutted to a Perimeter Edging Strip around the perimeter of each room to prevent Flanking Transmission. 19dB as a reduction is slightly below a 75% reduction in terms of percentages across an average of frequencies – this will change depending on your structure.

The high mass that concrete contains comes in the majority of cases, a drastic reduction of airborne noise, however some concrete constructions are subject to airborne noise issues, in which MuteMat® 2 Plus will help to reduce by approximately 2-5dB – so a suspended mass system on either the floor with MuteCradleâ„¢ or Batten Strip with new timber battens, or a ceiling soundproofing solution like our MuteClip® options to yield improved acoustic results.

Impact noise issues are just as abundant in offices than they are in homes, especially with concrete constructions. MuteMat® 2 Plus helps to improve structural borne vibration with the combination of both MuteMat® 2 and Tecsound.

With any current concrete structures that require Part E Building Regulations for the conversion to multiple dwellings, we recommened to carry out an acoustic test to survey the current acoustic performance of the structure – it helps to give us an idea of what is required to assist in passing both airborne and impact insulation values – some concrete structures may require further ceiling suspension to help with airborne reduction or to prevent any significant structural borne vibration. For any concrete residences that are being proposed and have not yet been built, we can help create partition designs to estimate acoustic figures with your proposal and with the addition of MuteMat® 2 to see if anything in addition is required.

Tecsound helps to provide additional vibration control and additional mass per m2 that could help to assist with patching up any cracks found in the concrete to reduce airborne leakage. It helps to improve the impact performance primarily in this instance of applying in a concrete construction.

The only improvements yielded from soundproofing a portion of the room is under appliances that create a great deal of structural vibration, for example: washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers – we would suggest creating a small platform out of MuteMat® 2 to reduce vibration created by these. For anything else, impact noise will only be improved once stepping on the mat, even if the concerning room below finishes half way through a room – this will flank from the untreated part completing negating the soundproofing in place

All rolled carpets can be pulled directly over MuteMat® 2 without any need for an over boarding, Carpet Gripper Strips will need to be fit around the perimeter of each room to raise the gripper rods to a more suited height. Hard floor finishes such as laminate or engineered wood would require a 6mm ply minimum bonded to MuteMat® 2 to act as a stable base, and lightweight and delicate floor finishes: parquet, luxury vinyl tile and ceramic tiling, for example, require a 9mm ply minimum, also bonded to act as a stable base

Important Information

Our products contain a high level of mass. If there are any structural concerns you will want to consult a Structural Engineer to discuss your requirements.

*Our Typical Performance Results and Noise Reduction Guidance are provided to indicate the results that have been achieved in previous tests but are not guaranteed to a specific site as multiple factors can affect this, you can view their variants on our ‘Featured Systems’ tab.
