Our robust gym soundproofing system that offers great performance against impact and vibration for noise-sensitive areas that include pulled weight machines, free weights and large aerobics classes.
MuteMat® Gym 15-B51 is our practical, robust and acoustically high performing gym flooring system for improving the soundproofing performance of concrete floors in Gymnasiums and Fitness centres fit for a range of purposes that are known to create impact noise issues, and structural borne vibration.
It is suitable for all gyms of both professional and commercial, and for use in personal home gym areas with the use of rowing machines, spin-cycles and cardio. MuteMat® Gym 15-B51 is a relatively simple installation with its modular style fitting, each 1m x 1m layer can be bonded to the next layer. No floor finishing is required and each tile has slip-resistant qualities.
The abundance of low-end structural vibration from the impact of large weight drops is one of the most significant issues gymnasiums, and fitness centres face. If an unprotected floor receives a weight-bar from even the most conservative of heights, this will without fail cause incredible levels of structural vibration, with sound flanking up and down adjacent walls, across multiple flooring levels and even into ceiling areas above weight drops, covering great distances - especially in concrete structures. MuteMat® Gym systems provide unrivalled acoustic performance due to its multi-composite layers of various densities, thicknesses and material types - going to impressive lengths to reduce a wide range of impact noise issues that cause significant concern for gyms, areas that include cross-fit activities, heavy free-weight areas and stack.
MuteMat® Gym B34 is our highly recycled base layer for our gym flooring systems. When used in a system as a base layer it offers significant improvement and protection against impact sounds transfering through the floor. Primarily used in free-weight areas and spaces where high levels of impact are expected. This product is suitable for professional and commercial gyms.
MuteMat® USP 625-17 is a pimpled, compressible rubber crumb acoustic material that deviates from 10mm to 17mm to offer maximum compressibility to absorb sound energy from impact noise issues. This creates a floating floor structure that provides providing lesser points of contact between the substrate and the new MuteMat® Gym layers. What you get is a robust acoustic platform that when weights are dropped, their impact is muted.
We provide Acoustic Installation across the UK to fit all of our systems - they come with a wealth of experience in the field so you can feel comfortable that the right installation methods are being carried out.

Precise levels of sound control in an ever-increasing urban population, to which is found in close contact with one another, is paramount. The potential for disturbances and creating a negative impact on the lives and businesses around you can lead to long and problematic legal complications that could have been saved from the offset. It is often that companies wish to provide convenient locations for customers so that they are not tempted by other close-by competition. This means that fitness centres are now found in multi-purpose complexes alongside both residences and businesses, both of which can be affected by structural vibration and impact noise.
It isn’t just essential to make sure there is soundproofing installed, but also that the correct soundproofing is in place. Not only are there perhaps neighbours adjacent or close by that could be affected by the noise a fitness centre or gym makes, but it is internally too where disruption could lessen the overall experience. Corridors, changing rooms and general reception areas could still be of impact to rooms close adjacent that requires total peace. Class-based activities consisting of aerobics, spa and wellness areas such as yoga teaching will undoubtedly be more appealing without the low thud of weight drops and vibration from machinery.
Careful planning is required throughout, and this is why we recommend specifying from the beginning with a Gym Noise Impact Assessment, more information can be found below.
We have put together a guide to what acoustic design targets may be required to consider, although these will require discussion with local building control or council authorities as the sound insulation values often differ.
If you are looking to create a new Gym, renovate an existing one or have been asked to look at the impact your gym may have on the community by way of creating excessive noise - we would highly recommend a comprehensive Gym Noise Impact Assessment. It will give you perhaps additional considerations across areas you may have expected such as the overall planning of the gym floor, what level of sound insulation you require so that disturbances are minimal and in some occasions, deciding your available opening times. There will also be the placement of speakers so that music being played through the P.A does not pass by any soundproofing systems, or are mounted in a way that causes issues to neighbour properties, or noise-sensitive spaces.
We provide these acoustic assessments at a competitive rate, as well as developing acoustic designs to meet agreed gym soundproofing requirements.
With an already existing Gym, you may not consider any additional soundproofing - but, with the introduction of new spaces alongside heavy equipment - you will want to consider carrying out these General Impact Tests to see how this may affect areas internally to help decide what level of acoustic isolation is required. This would involve a drop test on a variety of MuteMat® Gym products as solo options and like with this acoustic system, combining them with or MuteMat® Gym Base range to help with achieving desirable soundproofing targets.
We provide these acoustic assessments at a competitive rate.
With the range of different activities going on at the same time, often from the early hours till late evening - dedicated gym soundproofing materials are a must. What level of protection you need against impact noises all depends on the location, whether it is adjacent to homes and businesses or if weight or impact driven activities are adjacent the internal noise sensitive areas - both will require a certain level of acoustic system in place. A Noise Impact Assessment will provide the best coverage of what is required in all these events, and will help to look at which areas MuteMat® Gym 15 would be best suited.
MuteMat® Gym 15 can be installed to soundproof areas that include spin-cycles which often generate vibration through their operation, the continuous footfall created by treadmills along with it’s belt drive creating low frequency vibration, and for areas that contain weight-machines in less noise sensitive areas.
As an a robust, space saving and high effective gym soundproofing platform, the introduction of MuteMat® Gym 15 is a must if you are looking to make improvements from low-priority weight drop areas to running machines. They can be installed retrospectively and with ease too, making the improvements a straightforward process.
There are a broad range of noise issues that create on-going problems for gyms and fitness centres, and unless there is a already stated low-priority for soundproofing or internal acoustic issues are not an issue - a Noise Impact Assessment may not be necessary for some situations. A series of General Impact Noise tests may suffice, stance away in a dedicated building, perhaps a series of general impact tests may suffice, but we cannot guarantee acoustic performance to any set acoustic targets with how they may affect adjacent rooms, nor can we review any potential issues with Flanking Transmission.
The significant weight behind both of these activities may not be best treated with MuteMat® Gym 15, and may require something more robust - especially when in close proximity to other properties of both home and business. MuteBloc™ should also be used in conjunction to provide maximum acoustic protection.
When in the stages of a gym proposal, a Noise Impact Assessment will take into account all areas of activities and rest areas, as well as residential and commercial structures nearby, and how each will be affected. What you will find is that there are noise issues in abundance in both the activities and the general operation of a gym. With this there will be not only acoustic materials specified for floor coverings to reduce impact noise from a range of weight-based activities, but also how to treat flanking paths with concerning airborne noises and to the smaller details including the soundproofing or vibration control of air-conditioning units and use of metal structures.
Internal acoustics are also a concern, by which excessive reverberation found in abundance in rooms with hard surfaces lend to negative experiences of members not being able to fully engage with activities to where the instructors voice is lost. This issue is treated by the introduction of dedicated sound absorption panelling and hanging baffles to minimise the decay of sound in such rooms. Our sound absorption range is a series of designs, colours and sculptures to stand-out or fit in, and even match your Gym Brand.
