MuteClip® (Patent Pending) Double Plus is our most popular option for projects that require a wall soundproofing solution that is both high performing and space-conscious, with only an 80mm loss of space. It creates fewer points of contact with the partition wall using the MuteClip® which is composed of a dual-density rubber in a galvanised metal case, acting as a shock absorber. The MuteClip® Channel affixes to the MuteClip® and the new soundproof wall which is composed of a layer of SoundPlank 19mm, Tecsound, and a dense layer Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm suspend away from the partition wall. What this ultimately results in is a vastly improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing immediate vibrations.
MuteClip® Double Plus is available for specification on a wide range of projects that include large scale residential builds, commercial properties such as separating office partitions for increased privacy, and even audio recording and audio editing environments that are limited in space. Installation is based on a 600mm spacing, and we recommend staggering the MuteClip® at 1200mm in a diamond configuration with a MuteClip® at each end. MuteClip® Channels would also installed with a 600mm spacing with one located 100mm from top and bottom

It is also compliant with the required acoustic values for airborne transmission featured in the Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, and we would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System. Scottish Building Regulations contain higher targets than that of Part E, and our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.

To where there are space issues there can also often be a limit on what can be achieved in this amount of space. But, our MuteClip® and Channel with a dense and effective 3-ply system of Acoustic Plasterboard and Tecsound, accompanied with a treatable void to improve performance come in at only 80mm. There is a significant reduction of a good portion of everyday household noises that include: day-to-day conversation, raised television levels and small impact noises such as light switches and light vibration. We look to see an improvement over a single course brick wall of around 10-15dB or a 50-67% reduction as a guide, properties do differ from one another and there would also need to be a great deal of consideration on Flanking Transmission and the paths the sound will take as an alternative to direct trajectory through a wall.
They will be reduced, yes - although without complete separation the low frequencies felt from heavy impact noise and sounds generated from high fidelity systems, soundbars or in the odd occasion, full cinema room installations - these scenarios will require a stud frame to be fitted first to gain separation, and adjacent surfaces will need further consideration to look at how to prevent Flanking Transmission.
With the correct attention to given to any weak areas, flanking paths from cavities above, below and in adjacent walls and any other possible paths sound may travel - MuteClip® Double Plus will in most cases surpass the Part E Building Regulations in both new builds and conversions, of both internal of a singular dwelling and between separate dwellings. Care must be taken to assure all acoustic materials have been installed correctly.
Making the change over to the use of our MuteClip® from Resilient Bars will cut down on incorrect fittings on site, and costly remedial measures that Resilient Bars can often lead to. If a channel has been overtightened during the installation of Acoustic Plasterboard, it’s suspension is lost, and it could well be bent into the wall - meaning the wall will need to be taken down again, channel removed, and start over. With the MuteClip®, there is not incorrect fittings, as well as this - there are acoustic performance benefits in the lower frequencies that the MuteClip® and Channel offer over Resilient Channels.
The void is suitable for fitting a 30mm or 25mm Acoustic Mineral Wool between the Acoustic Plasterboard and the current structural wall. Treating this void is vital to absorb noise issues in the cavity, a void that contains a sound insulating, soft material is beneficial to the overall acoustic performance.
Rigid surfaces in contact with one another will lead to the short-circuiting of an acoustic system through a way of Flanking Transmission. If the Acoustic Plasterboard is butted up tightly to all adjacent wall, floor and ceiling - any vibration found in these areas will move to the plasterboard layers and disrupting the suspension of the wall. Leave a gap as close to each surface without touching and fill with acoustic sealant.
We always advise removing dot and dab plasterboard for it creates a cavity for sound to continue travelling down and amplifying, fixing over dot and dab could create a double leaf effect, a negative attribute in acoustics. It is also advised to remove any adjacent dot and dab on nearby walls, as bringing the newly created sound proof system up to this will still have voids running down each side for the sound to travel freely.
