MuteBarrierâ„¢ 5kg/m2 Mass Loaded Vinyl

MuteBarrier is an ideal option for adding a more mass to a floor to perform effectively against low levels of airborne noise. MuteBarrier can also be used on walls, ceilings and to construct acoustic fences.

MuteBarrier makes an ideal acoustic underlay to help soundproof flats, apartments and commercial premises.

MuteBarrier will not help with impact noise like footsteps. If you need to combat both impact and airborne please see our MuteMat range.

For use with most flooring

MuteBarrier soundproof underlay can be used with most flooring types. Carpet, wood flooring, engineered wood flooring, LVT and laminate can all be laid directly on top. If you wish to lay tiles on top we recommend you lay a 6mm+ ply wood or concrete board first.

Ultra slim and high mass

MuteBarrier 5kg/m2 comes in at an amazingly slim 2 mm whilst adding an additional mass of 5kg/m2. This high mass helps block the transfer of sound vibrations without costing you lots of floor height.

MuteBarrier is shipped on a pallet. Unlike others, we hold stock of all of our products ready to dispatch same day Monday to Friday. We also offer next day delivery for orders placed before 1pm Monday to Friday.

Mutebarrier 10kg is thicker (4mm) and weighs 10kg per m2 whereas the MuteBarrier 5kg is slimmer (2mm) and weighs less. MuteBarrier 5kg will cost you less space but will be less effective for airborne sound reduction.

This can be used between layers of plasterboard on a wall and ceiling but we usually recommend the Tecsound for wall and ceiling applications as this is self-adhesive.

Yes, although this will not compress like a normal carpet underlay so it would not give the same spring effect, you may be better with the MuteMat 2 or 3.

Yes, you can lay a laminate directly on this product as it has minimal to no deflection.

The MLV or MuteBarrier is better for a floor in most situations as it is harder wearing under footfall. Tecsound is better for walls and ceilings as it is self-adhesive and vibration dampening whilst still adding the mass.
