MuteBoard™ 2 is a ceiling soundproofing system, designed for installation in even the tightest of ceiling spaces, ones that are concerned with the loss of space or unable to accommodate suspended ceiling systems. MuteBoard 2 will help to reduce ambient levels of noise as an acoustic barrier suitable for typical household or workplace noise issues.  This system also includes Acoustic Mineral Wool to be fit between the studs, at no less than 45kg per m3. It is all these two materials combined that make it ideal for 'future-proofing' against noise issues that could be found in the shared household or workplace,  or between existing rooms that suffer from intrusive background noise levels.

  • Slimline solution for ceilings.
  • Loss of space approximately 19mm.
  • Easy to install with a little background in DIY or joinery.
  • Up to 42dB for airborne (where a higher number is desirable)* (details are available on the 'System Performance' tab above).
  • Be sure to check for 'Flanking Transmission' in adjacent surfaces as these can affect acoustic performance.

Combining essential soundproofing materials.

  • MuteBoard™ 2 - Tecsound fitted, a visco-elastic membrane (helps dampen vibration and improve the reduction of airborne transmission).
  • MuteBoard™ 2 - Acoustic Plasterboard (dense Plasterboard option for reduction of airborne sound).
  • Acoustic Mineral Wool 45kg or 60kg per m3 - (essential for reducing resonance between studs, and to minimise sound 'flanking' into other rooms)

All of our systems contain a high level of mass. If there are any structural concerns, you will want to consult a Structural Engineer to discuss your requirements.

*Our Typical Performance Results and Noise Reduction Guidance are provided to indicate the results that have been achieved in previous tests but are not guaranteed to a specific site as multiple factors can affect this.

We endeavour to display the most up to date testing and to manage expectation as best as possible. Please do contact us to discuss your requirements.

Noise Reduction Guidance*

  • Background to light conversation noise
  • Light levels of TV noise
  • General household noise such as light switches and kitchen in use

Compliance with Part E Building Regulations and Scottish Building Regulations

  • We would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties prior to concluding on an Acoustic System when adhering to Part E Building Regulations; these are applicable across the UK, excluding Scotland (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland.

  • We would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties prior to concluding on an Acoustic System when adhering to Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, the Scottish Building Regulations contain higher targets than that of Part E, our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.
