MuteClip Single Premium – Brick Wall Soundproofing

Wall Soundproofing

Our MuteClip Systems reduce the most noise in the smallest footprint.

NOISE REDUCTION

Hear the difference.

Play the video to hear the sound difference before and after installing this system. For best results try to match the volume of the unreduced audio to the volume of the noise you’re able to hear.

The noise in the video has been digitally reduced to give you an idea of the sorts of results you could expect. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect science and your personal results could vary due to myriad reasons. However, we have found our customers prefer to hear a decibel reduction rather than read it!

We stand for quality, and we are proud of it.

MuteClip® Single Premium is our slim option for projects that require a wall soundproofing solution that performs at a high standard and is space-conscious, with only a 59mm loss of space. It creates fewer points of contact with the partition wall using our MuteClip®, which is composed of a dual-density rubber in a galvanised metal case, acting as a mini shock absorber.

The MuteClip® Channel affixes to the MuteClip® and the new soundproof wall which is composed of a layer of our MuteBoard® 2 suspends away from the partition wall, ultimately resulting in a vastly improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing immediate vibrations.

How to soundproof a brick wall

Brick walls already have quite good soundproof qualities so to improve that we need to employ some science and engineering magic. Instead of solely adding mass the MuteClip Double stud creates two structures decoupled from the original brick wall.

First, a Stud frame is built and only connected to the flanking walls, floor and ceiling not the problem wall. This helps prevent the original wall from transferring noise vibrations to our new wall.

The stud wall is then filled with sound-absorbing acoustic mineral wool. We then attach our sound isolation clips (MuteClip) to the joists of the stud frame these act as mini shock absorbers to further reduce the noise vibrations. From here you can clip our MuteClip Channels into the MuteClips the create a frame to which you can attach two layers of acoustic plasterboard. Between these two layers, we install sound-dampening Tecsound. Once complete this creates an incredible reduction in decibels.

Soundproofing a brick party wall

Unfortunately, we frequently encounter customers who are at their wits’ end because of noisy neighbours. This obtrusive noise may stress a person out or just make them uncomfortable. A MuteClip System can lower this noise to a level that you can forget about when it comes to soundproofing your walls against noisy neighbours!
IKoustic will be ready to provide all the assistance you need to create the system that works for you once you’re ready to put an end to disruptive noise and soundproof your walls against noisy neighbours.

Advice and installation

Our team are always a phone call away ready to offer advice and support. Our systems can be installed by competent DIYers but if you would like to work with an installer we have relationships with installers up and down the UK that we can out you in touch with.

MuteClip Single Premium Calculator

Use our handy calculator to see what soundproofing products your project will require. Don’t forget to unfold the ‘more info’ tab below to learn how to use this calculator.

Once you have your calculator results you can add all the products to your basket using the button below. You will have to manually input the results from the calculator. We know this is not ideal and we are looking into developing a solution for this.

Wall Isolation Clip Calculator
Wall Stud Center

The wall stud center is the distance between stud uprights. The typical stud upright is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Wall Channel Center

The wall channel center is the distance between the horizontal MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.
  • This calculator is designed to give a quick estimate. If you require an accurate quotation please call our team.

Questions

A soundproofing system isn’t rocket science but sometimes figuring out which one is right for you can be challenging. Check out our FAQs, get in touch via our live chat, or give us a call to speak to a human.

the MuteClip® Single Plus is our slimmest option available with an acoustic system featuring our acoustic clip and bar system. It’s decoupling properties help to improve the overall performance and is ideal for soundproofing a home where the full MuteClip® Double is not applicable.

Where noise issues include around reducing background conversation, low-level television to where your neighbours may have hung their TV or some find that there is often clicking of pilots from boilers or light switches to be problematic, this will help to reduce those noise issues.

On a standard brick wall construction with a direct fit, we look to see an improvement of 5-10dB which is a 25-50% reduction of noise issues that are not excessive, music and the slamming of doors are often prime examples that do require a healthy wall soundproofing option.

The installation of Mute Clipâ„¢ and it’s Channel is that it can only be installed one way, with one screw per clip with the channel snapped in. It lends to speed of fixing without the fear of over tightening and bending the Resilient Bar or fixing upside down to which we have seen in some cases. Its acoustic performance is also improved through the use of a dual-density rubber composition and lesser fixings.

MuteClip® and Channel creates a 41mm void between Acoustic Plasterboard and the structural wall, so a 25mm or 30mm Acoustic Mineral Wool is best placed here to allow an air gap to operate. Do not attempt to compress a thicker size in, this will negatively impact the system by short-circuiting the acoustic clip and bar.

Flanking Transmission can cause vibration to travel between tightly joined hard surfaces, which can have a significant impact on any system’s acoustic performance. Always allow a space between the nearby walls, floor, and ceiling, and line it with acoustic sealant as closely as you can without touching.

Most homeowners tell us that the sounds can be heard from anywhere because there are small routes that allow the sound to freely move. Dot and dab is a misconception concerning soundproofing, and its creation to improve acoustics is somewhat misunderstood.
Wherever possible, they ought to be taken out or at the very least cut into so that the new wall soundproofing system can be installed close to the actual structural wall.

Competent DIY’ers have installed our systems thousands of times if you have good DIY know-how and read our installation guide carefully you should have no problem.

If DIY isn’t for you we have a network of independent soundproofing installers up and down the country that we can recommend to you.

Depending on your current buildup it is not always possible to tell with conversion projects, especially to where there are Flanking potential paths that could have a profound influence on the outcome of the airborne performance.

With new builds, we can look to create internal partition make-ups with estimates on acoustic figures with various densities of wall build up to provide a good indicator. If there is uncertainty in the conversion process, we would either recommend carrying out an acoustic test or upgrading to our MuteClip Double or MuteClip Double Plus
