Its high performance comes from a combination of both the separated stud framework that creates fewer contact points with the existing wall partition using the MuteClip® which is composed of a dual-density rubber in a galvanised metal case, acting as a shock absorber. The MuteClip® Channel affixes to the MuteClip® and the new soundproof wall which is composed of two layers of dense Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm and Tecsound suspends away from the partition wall, ultimately resulting in a vastly improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing immediate vibrations.

Installation is based on a 600mm spacing, and we recommend staggering the MuteClip® at 1200mm in a diamond configuration with a MuteClip® at each end. MuteClip® Channels would also installed with a 600mm spacing with one located 100mm from top and bottom

It is also compliant with the required acoustic values for airborne transmission featured in the Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, and we would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System. Scottish Building Regulations feature higher targets than that of Part E, and our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.

With the introduction of a separated stud framing, this assists in reduce direct vibrations from travelling through, and will also create an air gap in helping to reduce airborne transmission with MuteClip® Stud Double drastically. Where noise issues regarding the more intrusive noises, slamming of doors which can often be a real issue or music need reducing, this will be the best way to go. With the slamming of doors it is important to remember that vibration will travel in all directions, so will travel across ceilings and through the flooring which you still hear. With airborne noise issues, we look to see an improvement of 10-20dB, depending on the structural wall makeup and it’s current acoustic performance - this is only a guide, but approximately 50-75% as an average of noise reduced. Incredibly low frequencies generated by direct impact and subwoofer installations will still vibrate - these would require complete isolation.
With our current acoustic test data and our years of experience with understanding acoustic clips and their usually high soundproofing figures puts MuteClip® Stud Double in a strong position for passing the values featured in Part E Building Regulations. Every effort must be made to make sure there are no weak spots or Flanking paths that could affect performance, for example: leaving adjacent cavities untreated, having inadequate soundproofing in place, or poor installation of the acoustic system with significant gaps and elements in full contact with adjacent surfaces. This system is suitable for both new build constructions and conversions, and it is also ideal for soundproofing hotels and houses of multiple occupancies.
The installation of Mute Clip™ and it’s Channel is that it can only be installed one way, with one screw per clip with the channel snapped in. It lends to speed of fixing without the fear of over tightening and bending the Resilient Bar or fixing upside down to which we have seen in some cases. Its acoustic performance is also improved through the use of a dual density rubber composition and lesser fixings.
Depending on the thickness of the stud framing, MuteClip® and Channel offers a 41mm gap in addition to the depth of stud framing, and the stud should also be at least 10mm away from the partition wall. With this in mind, you will want to make sure you do not compress a particular thickness in between by doubling up - this will not improve acoustic performance but will reduce it. Make sure there is at least a 10mm gap between plasterboard and Acoustic Mineral Wool.
Hard surfaces that are tightly butted together will lend to vibration transfer, and this will negate the MuteClip® and Channel causing the soundproofing performance overall to be reduced. Make sure the gap is left with the Acoustic Plasterboard as close as you can without touching and fill this with Acoustic Sealant.
Dot and Dab Plasterboard should always be removed to avoid the transfer of sound, and this also goes for adjacent walls - because their cavities will continue to leak sound through by bypassing the soundproofing. If you cannot remove the dot and dab on adjacent walls cannot opt to at least cut into where MuteClip® Stud Double ends, remember for any weak external walls, sound may still travel through them and continue to amplify further along the wall in the dot and dab area. Cornicing, coving and skirting should all be removed, only going up or down to a certain level leaves a large portion of the wall untreated - potentially giving you no reduction in sound at all.
