Our MuteCradle™  45/60mm system is our fully fitted acoustic cradle system, a high performing and efficient method to achieve an easy to install floating floor system. Creating a floating floor, in the case of soundproofing, is essential when treating excessive impact noise issues and areas where you expect high foot-traffic. One example of where we find high foot-traffic is in workplace environments, where a quiet and private space exists below a communal area, such as a kitchen. The separation created by the MuteCradle™ system by the use of our MuteMat® OSF 750-10 affixed to the base, a dense rubber resilient layer that boosts acoustic performance for the reduction of impact noise. Where airborne noise is concerned, MuteCradle™, as we know, separates from the concrete subfloor, so this helps isolate low-frequency noise by creating an air gap, one that you insulate with Acoustic Mineral Wool. To further improve performance, you have the option to apply any of our flooring range to the cradle.

Another benefit of using MuteCradle™ is it is versatile on uneven concrete floors. It has a dual-height selection with a range of 'packers' to create a level floor, no need for screed, no wait for curing times or large machinery, it can adapt to significant steps and incremental dips. Some projects, especially those that need to specify to the wiring of services through voids, also benefit from the advantage of this system (or our higher MuteCradle for increased voids).

How to Install

  • Floor heights will require some consideration within the build, including any servicing that requires running underneath
  • 36mm battens would require 6.6 MuteCradle™ per m2 (based on installation advice below)
  • 46mm battens would require 5 MuteCradle™ per m2 (based on installation advice below)
  • Packers available at 1.5, 3, 6 and 12mm
  • Do not exceed 20mm of packers in each MuteCradle™
     
  • Battens advised as above to be installed at 400mm centres.
  • MuteCradle™ installed 450mm centres.
  • Installing Rockwool Acoustic Mineral Wool RW3 between battens.
  • Perimeter Flanking Band around the perimeter of each room to butt floor layers against.
  • MuteDeck™ 18mm or tongue and groove ply/chipboard installed on top of battens.

Yes it is, whether it is block and beam, precast or cast in-situ concrete - MuteCradle™ can be installed on all of them and can be a fantastic options for creating a new subfloor platform where costly screeding is no longer required, it can also assist in the floor levelling profile and helps to reduce airborne and impact noise issues. It’s void created also helps to create an area for all servicing to run out of sight.

Screeding can often be costly in both time and budget, waiting for it to set without cracking and any of the other defects that come along with it can be avoided by using our MuteCradle™ 45/60mm system. It can be purchased alongside a range of MuteCradle™ Packers which are to fine tune to final floor height to make certain that it is level, it works in conjunction with MuteCradle™ 16/30mm so that large floor heights and steps can be factored in without any additional structural work.

Existing concrete structures that are subject to Part E Building Regulations for conversion projects would do best to undergo a series of acoustic tests to survey the room to room acoustic performance as it will often give us the best starting point to what is required at either at only floor or floor and ceiling level. MuteCradle™ is capable of surpassing Part E Building Regulations in both new builds and conversions for impact insulation - and with the right soundproof underlays - airborne too.

Offices are subject to quite a range of noises and require solutions that can often cater to having servicing run through them, for example - server cabling, plugs, pipework and any other form of servicing. MuteCradle™ helps to solve both these issues with a new floor platform that can be improved by using MuteDeck™ or MuteMat® 3 as two potential options to yield a greater airborne and impact performance. The void created is also fit for the laying of Acoustic Mineral Wool and this helps to improve the airborne reduction.

Recording studios, cinema rooms and audio suites all require heavy duty separation to reduce structural borne vibration from low frequency sound energy - if a floor is left untreated the sound can still move in to the structural floor through the foundations and flank up walls behind any wall soundproofing in place - completely negating their placement. Once low frequency sound reaches a dense surface, it can travel great distances and with hefty amounts of vibration.

Using the thickest options available with the 60mm side of the MuteCradle™, 20mm of packers which is the maximum and with 46mm thick stud frame work would allow a total thickness of 100mm of Acoustic Mineral Wool to be fitted, do not try to compress more in as this would create a form of contact between floor platform and concrete floor which would degrade acoustic performance.

There should be no more than a 3mm deviation in any point of the subfloors final level for this could leave the a lesser acoustic performance and create stability issues, make sure to use our MuteCradle™ packers to assure the flooring is level.

Depending on your requirements there are a broad range of soundproofing solutions available - if you are uncertain of what you require we can look to provide acoustic testing to assist in acquiring certain acoustic targets that could be in in Part E Building Regulations or feature in Building Control requirements for special circumstances.
