Our MuteMat® 2 Pro system is a high performing solution for soundproofing timber floors, and this system covers a range of scenarios. This system seeks to improve both airborne and impact noise issues while offering you something slim with an excellent performance against even the most intrusive noises. MuteMat® 2 is compressible, while still dense, and combines with a full system alongside Versafloor® 18mm, a cement particle board, mostly a dense mix of concrete and chipboard provides a rigid and heavy board to create a barrier against airborne noise, and Tecsound, a visco-elastic material that reduces vibration and breaks down sound energy by turning it into heat. There is also Acoustic Mineral Wool to fit between the joists, at no less than 45kg per m3, and use of Isolation Strips to provide a floating floor function. It is all these materials combined that make it ideal for those looking to achieve the best floor soundproofing possible, to reduce overhearing of a clear conversation, bringing levels of footsteps down to background noise levels and even the use of HIFI audio devices. Although these are noise issues commonly associated with what you find at home, especially in dense-living, multiple dwellings, these disturbances are similar to those you hear in the workplace. We recommend this system for both homes and workplaces.

  • Compliant with Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland).
  • Be sure to check for 'Flanking Transmission' in adjacent surfaces as these can affect acoustic performance.

 

Combining essential soundproofing materials.

 

  • MuteMat® 2 - 6mm PE crosslinked foam (closed cell) that is consistent in structure (provides compression needed in timber builds to reduce impact)
  • MuteMat® 2 - 7.5kg per m2 Mass Loaded Vinyl (a high mass for reducing airborne sound)
  • Versafloor® 18mm - an incredibly dense, tongue-and-groove cement particle board (greater mass than ply or standard chipboard to reduce airborne noise).
  • Tecsound - a visco-elastic barrier to help reduce vibration and improve the reduction of airborne noise.
  • Acoustic Mineral Wool 45kg or 60kg per m3 - (essential for reducing resonance between joists, and to minimise sound 'flanking' into other rooms)
  • Isolation Strip P8 - is a deviated, rubbed crumber material to separate from joists (to achieve the best performance against impact and low-frequency noise)

Floor Finish Examples

  • The carpet may go straight over the top, and you will need to use Carpet Gripper Strips around the perimeter of the room to raise your gripper rod
  • Laminate and engineered oak will require a 6mm ply minimum to be bonded to the top to act as a stable base using our iKoustic VS90 adhesive
  • LVT, vinyl, tiled and over fragile and thin flooring types would require a 9mm ply minimum bonded to the top to act as a stable base using our iKoustic VS90 adhesive

 

How to install

  • Acoustic Mineral Wool fitted between joists in which it's depth dictates thickness needed, you will want to leave at least a 10mm air gap - DO NOT COMPRESS
  • Isolation Strips self-adhered to top of joists, make sure these are as dust free as possible
  • Tongue and groove Versafloor® subfloor installed providing an airtight seal.
  • Perimeter detail installed, dependent on your floor finish above this may either be Perimeter Flanking Band for hard finishes or Carpet Gripper Strip for woven carpeted finishes
  • Tecsound SY70 installed throughout with self-adhesive backing, this can be loose laid but use self-adhesive backing around edges to help provide an airtight seal, taping together joins
  • MuteMat® 2 installed over top opposite direction from joins of SY70, taping together joins

  • When installed under the correct guidance this system is compliant with the required acoustic values for airborne and impact transmission featured in Part E Building Regulations; these are applicable across the UK, excluding Scotland (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland. We would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System.
     
  • In regards to the Scottish Building Regulations Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, we would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System, Scottish Building Regulations contain higher targets than that of Part E, our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.
