MuteMat® 3 Acoustic Underlay

MuteMat 3 is a 12mm acoustic underlay that can be laid on top of timber or concrete floors to reduce impact and airborne noise. Carpet, wood, tile and vinyl flooring can be laid on top of the MuteMat 3. You can watch our installation video to see how it’s done below.

Cross section 3

3 layers of soundproofing

MuteMat 3 features closed cell foam locked between two layers of high-density mass-loaded vinyl. The grey mass-loaded vinyl works to dampen and break down airborne sound. The blue foam compresses to absorb impact energy.

Dual Density vinyl

MuteMat 3 features dual-density technology. This helps break up different frequencies of soundwave meaning we can keep the mat 20% slimmer than comparative products at just 12mm.

soundproofing Closed cell foam

Closed cell foam

MuteMat 3 utilises closed cell foam. Closed cell foam is denser and more durable than open cell foam. Making it more effective as an acoustic underlay and helping it stand up to everyday use.

We recommend marking the mat with a straight edge where you would like to make your cut then using a sharp utility knife to make a clean cut.

No, simply lay onto a level floor and tape over the edges with cloth tape.

Yes, it’s essential to use a perimeter flanking band to achieve the results stated above. A perimeter flanking band is a foam band that is installed around the edge of your room where MuteMat sits up against to form a tight seal between the mat and the wall. It’s easy to install and you can see how in the video below.

MuteMat 2 is not specifically rated to prevent damp. However the mat itself is damp, rot and fungus resistant.

All rolled carpets can be pulled directly over MuteMat® 3 without any need for over boarding, Carpet Gripper Strips will need to be fit around the perimeter of each room to raise the gripper rods to a more suited height.

Hard floor finishes such as wood, laminate or engineered floor would require a minimum of 6mm ply bonded to MuteMat® 2 to act as a stable base. Ceramic tiling or lightweight and delicate floor finishes such as Karndean and Amtico will require a minimum of 9mm ply, bonded to act as a stable base.
