Part E Partition: 201 is a timber floor/ceiling partition consisting of the MuteMat OSF 750-10  being laid as an acoustic underlay on top of the structural board, the cavities inbetween the joists should be filled with Acoustic Mineral Wool 60 kg/m3 (the thickness of the acoustic mineral wool will depend on the depth of the cavity available). The ceiling is then treated with two layers of Acoustic Plasterboard 15mm being decoupled from the stud frame with the MuteClip® (Patent Pending) this helps to isolate the mass from the stud frame resulting in a vastly improved reduction of airborne noise, especially in the more problematic lower to middle-lower frequencies, as well as reducing immediate vibrations and an overall a high performing acoustic partition. The dual density rubber polymers of the MuteClip® improve noise reduction over a broad range of frequencies while remaining stable and consistent with every MuteClip®.

Compliance with Part E Building Regulations and Scottish Building Regulations

 

  • When installed under the correct guidance this system is compliant with the required acoustic values for airborne transmission featured in Part E Building Regulations; these are applicable across the UK, excluding Scotland (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland. We would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties before concluding on an Acoustic System.

When referring to Part E Building Regulations for interior rooms in a single dwelling, Part E Building Regulations would highly likely be adhered to in this scenario, as long as all Flanking Paths have been considered and adequately soundproofed. The same goes for the use of stud framework to separate two dwellings with the installation of MuteClip® Internal Double making sure all required components are installed correctly and Flanking Transmission paths dealt with sufficiently. This system has been tested as a framework in settings that showcase its performance going beyond the acoustic requirements set out in the Approved Document Part E.

In the installation phase of fixing Resilient Bar a number of incorrect fixings can lead to the failure of acoustic performance, we have seen them fitted the wrong way up to where the bar sags and bends leaving the Acoustic Plasterboard touching the floor, to them being overloaded and again, resulting in the Acoustic Plasterboard touching the floor. They have been over tightened and crushed the channel, and the fixings have breached the channel, and a direct path from wall to plasterboard is created, reducing the flexibility in the wall. The MuteClip® acoustic clip and channel system cannot be incorrectly fixed, and the design lends itself to being foolproof, no matter what experience you have in DIY. It also offers an acoustic improvement over the performance of Resilient Bars.
