Tecsound system is a simple but effective option for projects that require floor soundproofing, ones that need addressing with minimal loss of height from the floor, but something that can be added to give some additional airborne reduction to the floor. Tecsound comes in a range of options, but it is our Tecsound SY70 and Tecsound S100 that are best for this purpose, both presenting their level of acoustic performance. Both are dense, and it is this density that translates to an effective airborne reduction - you need a 'heavy' material to begin blocking sound energy. Tecsound is a visco-elastic material, and put, this means it acts as a 'damper' to reduce vibration, turning sound energy into heat when vibration comes into contact with it. There is also Acoustic Mineral Wool to fit between the joists, at no less than 45kg per m3, and use of Isolation Strips to provide a floating floor function. It is all these materials combined that make it ideal for those looking to achieve the best floor soundproofing possible, to reduce overhearing of a muffled conversation and the light use of electrical items, microwaves or televisions, nothing with substantial low-frequencies. Although these are noise issues commonly associated with what you find at home, especially in dense-living, multiple dwellings, these disturbances are similar to those you hear in the workplace.

  • Incredibly slimline soundproofing system for reducing airborne noise
  • System thickness from joist 32mm (this includes an 18mm floorboard and 8mm Isolation Strip)
  • Up to 45dB for airborne (where a higher number is desired)*
  • Down to 56dB for impact (where a lower number is desired)*
  • Straightforward to install, often loose laid and requires no adhesive
  • Be sure to check for 'Flanking Transmission' in adjacent surfaces as these can affect acoustic performance.

Combining essential soundproofing materials.

  • Tecsound - a visco-elastic barrier to help reduce vibration and improve the reduction of airborne noise.
  • Acoustic Mineral Wool 45kg or 60kg per m3 - (essential for reducing resonance between joists, and to minimise sound 'flanking' into other rooms)
  • Isolation Strip P8 - is a deviated, rubbed crumber material to separate from joists (to achieve the best performance against impact and low-frequency noise)

How to Install

  • Acoustic Mineral Wool fitted between joists in which it's depth dictates thickness needed, you will want to leave at least a 10mm air gap - DO NOT COMPRESS
  • Isolation Strips self-adhered to top of joists, make sure these are as dust free as possible
  • Perimeter detail installed, dependent on your floor finish above this would be Perimeter Flanking Band for hard finishes
  • Subfloor installed, preferably a tongue and groove flooring as this would provide an airtight seal
  • Tecsound adhered with self-adhesive backing.

Alternatively, we provide Acoustic Installation across the UK to fit all of our systems - they come with a wealth of experience in the field so you can feel comfortable that the right installation methods are being carried out.

All of our systems contain a high level of mass. If there are any structural concerns, you will want to consult a Structural Engineer to discuss your requirements.

*Our Typical Performance Results and Noise Reduction Guidance are provided to indicate the results that have been achieved in previous tests but are not guaranteed to a specific site as multiple factors can affect this.

We endeavour to display the most up to date testing and to manage expectation as best as possible. Please do contact us to discuss your requirements.

If you are in a structure to where there is very little give in the floor height but need something that will reduce vibration and airborne noise - this will be the best system to go with - we would always recommend to use the correct amount of acoustic mineral wool between the joists to reduce flanking transmission and cavity resonance.

Yes, these floorings can be installed directly on top and we will do our best to advise on the best adhesives to use with our Tecsound options.

This is primarily for an option for those looking to yield at least a little something for both airborne and impact noise to where noise issues are not invasive, such as use in your own home.
