MuteMat® OSF 750-10 | Timber Floor Soundproofing

One of our slim flooring systems that can be layed over the current floorboarding and uses our MuteMat OSF 750-10 to minimise impact sounds transfering down through the wooden joists.

  • Airborne: 52dB*
  • Impact: 50dB*
  • 10mm

This combines two core products within a high performing system. Installing a structural board on top of our Isolation Strip P8 creates a floating floor and then combining that with our MuteMat® OSF 750-10, which is our highest performing and most robust resilient acoustic underlay of our MuteMat® OSF range. This combination of products within a system offers superb airborne and impact results on wooden joists.

  • Easy to install, and can be loose laid with use of Woven Carpets.
  • Hard floor finishes can also be installed, please see further down for specific details on how to install successfully.
  • System thickness from structural board 10mm
  • 55dB* for airborne (where a higher number is desired) (details are available on the 'System Performance' tab above).
  • 48dB* for impact (where a lower number is desired) (details are available on the 'System Performance' tab above).
  • Compliant with Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). (Details are available on the 'System Performance' tab above).
  • Be sure to check for 'Flanking Transmission' in adjacent surfaces as these can affect acoustic performance.

At iKoustic our team can help you from start to finish and with the use of our MuteMat® OSF 750-10, we can provide Acoustic Modelling Data to estimate results, and can provide fantastic rates on those projects so that you feel the right choice has been made. We also provide Acoustic Testing for existing structures as well as Part E Building Regulation testing and another specialised acoustic testing for projects that include: Gyms and Nightclubs or even Residence that require or seek increased acoustic performance for improved living quality.

MuteMat® OSF 750-10 is part of iKoustic's MuteRange core - these are products that been subjected to stringent testing in both laboratory and real-world environments providing the best possible solution for the purpose with a result you can trust.

A Guide to Soundproofing a Floor

If you are uncertain of what to look for when soundproofing a floor, you can read our handy guide - A Guide to Soundproofing a Floor by clicking on the icon below. You can also pick up the phone and say hello to find out how we can help you on - 01937 588 226!

Making sure you are prepared

  • Depending on your floor finish, you may require additional adhesives which you can view below
  • If using after freshly poured concrete/screed please allow the sub floor to fully cure before laying to avoid any complications with installation.
  • Loss of space approximately 24mm (plus any ply and floor finishes to be installed)

How to Install

  • Rockwool RW3 fitted between joists in which it's depth dictates thickness needed, you will want to leave at least a 10mm air gap - DO NOT COMPRESS
  • Isolation Strips self-adhered to top of joists, make sure these are as dust free as possible
  • Perimeter detail installed, dependent on your floor finish above this may either be Perimeter Flanking Band for hard finishes or Carpet Gripper Strip for woven carpeted finishes
  • Unroll MuteMat® OSF 750-10 on the floor butting up joins and tape seams.

Alternatively, we provide Acoustic Installation across the UK to fit all of our systems - they come with a wealth of experience in the field so you can feel comfortable that the right installation methods are being carried out.

*Our Typical Performance Results and Noise Reduction Guidance are provided to give an indication of the results that have been achieved in previous tests but are not guaranteed to a specific site as there are multiple factors that can affect this.

*Our guide price includes all materials and ancillaries required

We endeavour to display the most up to date testing and to manage expectation as best as possible, please do contact us to discuss your requirements

Compliance with Part E Building Regulations and Scottish Building Regulations

  • When installed under the correct guidance this system is compliant with the required acoustic values for impact transmission featured in Part E Building Regulations; these are applicable across the UK, excluding Scotland (England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland. We would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties prior to concluding on an Acoustic System.
  • It is also compliant with the required acoustic values for impact transmission featured in the Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland, we would advise conducting a Sound Test to survey any planned conversions in existing properties prior to concluding on an Acoustic System, Scottish Building Regulations contain higher targets than that of Part E, our Legal Requirements section has the required acoustic values.

  • For additional guidelines and requirements for non-residential buildings, for example, Gyms, Nightclubs and Industrial focused purposes, please do contact us so we can discuss your available options.

One of the most common issues between neighbours is from to disturbance through noise, this can often lead to a very tense environment and something that is only solved by having the right soundproofing in place, and with cooperation where possible on the outcome. To where impact noise is the main concern, our MuteMat® OSF 750-10 offers a heavy reduction of noise in slim-line solution, offering approximately ∆Lw 23dB reduction taken from a 140mm concrete floor slab, this is over a 75% reduction of noise issues for impact noise.

Acoustic tests made on a 140mm concrete slab yield a reduction figure of ∆Lw 23dB, which for the majority of cases would yield the acoustic performance required across the board for both conversions and new builds regarding impact sound insulation. If you are looking to specify for an existing concrete structure we would recommend carrying out an acoustic test prior to gather results of both airborne and impact performance to see what requires achieving. With specifications require planning approval or other where a structure has not been built, we can create digital representations of acoustic partitions to see what guide of results you would expect in block and beam, pre-cast and cast in-situ concrete builds.

It would often be accompanied with our MuteClip® soundproof ceiling systems to increase performance for airborne noise and any impact noise issues that are found to be high, and for reducing structural vibration being found at the ceiling level.

We would recommend carrying out the same processes as above due to the acoustic requirements set out by the Scottish Building Regulations being much higher for both airborne and impact in new builds and conversions. It would most likely be required to implement a soundproof ceiling below to meet both the impact and airborne reduction values.

Far larger machinery that requires a fixing in to the flooring, the MuteMat® OSF 750-10 would not fair well as there would be multiple points of contact made to where vibration will travel in to. Lighter weight machinery and other equipment that can be set on top of MuteMat® OSF 750-10 would fair better in mitigating structural borne vibration.

If the structure and its plant machinery are yet to be installed - you would be best to look at using a floating screed construction with our MuteMat® USP range to gain the best separation possible.

If a the room you are looking to build or convert shares a concrete foundation or is in close proximity to other structures - MuteMat® OSF 750-10 would be a great addition to reduce impact noise from instrumentation and helping to decouple amplifiers and subwoofers from creating structural borne vibration - without any floor soundproofing you run the risk of these issues running under the wall soundproofing. When soundproofing cinema rooms or audio studios from above, it would be best to couple with a ceiling system underneath to best mitigate noise issues - airborne noise may not be sufficiently reduce with the concrete mass alone.

You can find all of our current information on this acoustic overscreed and it’s compatibility from the results below with use in conjunction with underfloor heating systems

Thermal Conductivity = 0.113 W/mK

Thermal Resistance = 0.094 m²K/W

Temperature Stability = -35°c to +100°c.

With a 10mm increase it may not require any alterations around the perimeter of the room, but depending on new floor layers some skirting may require moving and doors trimmed to a more suitable height. But, it certainly can be installed retrospectively and is a great option for anyone looking to install new hard floor finishes to replace a carpet perhaps.
