What do acoustic wall panels do?

Acoustic wall panels are made from materials with great sound absorption properties like melamine foam. These properties mean that they absorb lots of sound as opposed to a hard surface that would reflect some of that sound. In rooms with lots of hard surfaces, these reflections can make a room feel echoey (like a church or sports hall) but if you introduce some acoustic panels there is a big reduction in reverberation leading to a more pleasant environment.

How many acoustic panels do I need?

Typically you would take 50% of the ceiling area as a guide to how much Class A absorption you need evenly spread in a room to achieve a reverberation time (RT60) of 0.8 - 1.2 seconds (good speech intelligibility). These factors can be affected by many things like soft furnishings, the number of people in the room and room make-up. For a more accurate answer we recommend contacting us, we can then use an RT60 calculator to estimate the reverberation time within your room
