Acoustic floors are full soundproof floor systems that may be referred to as floating floors. The goal of these systems is to reduce impact and airborne noise travelling through a floor to a room below. Particularly common in flats and converted flats these soundproofing systems can aid in reducing the sound vibrations that travel from one flat to another.
If you are a developer looking to pass Part E regulations this is the highest performing floor soundproofing. Please do get in touch with our team to see what the most appropriate floor soundproofing system will be for you.

Getting the right acoustic underlay is dependent on your specific needs. Some underfloor joists are typically soundproofed as part of a larger system. The method for soundproofing floor joists we recommend is to attach isolation strips to the joists. Isolation strips are a rubber material that goes between the joists and flooring system. By fitting isolation strips you could expect to see a 4-8 dB decrease in sound, making them a highly effective low-cost upgrade to an acoustic flooring system. A further upgrade could be sticking a high-mass Visco elastic membrane like Tecsound to the sides of the joists to help reduce vibration.
To soundproof a timber floor you must add efficiently de-coupled mass. At the simplest end, this means adding pimpled rubber isolation strips on top of the joists and acoustic mineral wool in between them but can go up to adding foam and high-density vinyl matting like the MuteMat range and a fully-fledged soundproof cradle system.
Isolation strips are strips of rubber used to de-couple soundproofing systems from other structures. This includes floor joists and independent timber frames. They are a highly effective low-cost method for reducing the transfer of vibrations.
