MuteCradle™ 16/30mm is our dual height acoustic cradle system that offers a soundproof floating floor system that isolates away from concrete and timber floors, effective for the reduction of both impact and airborne sound. MuteCradle™ also allows you to produce a flat floor without the use of screed. A screed layer can often be an impractical solution due to the long lead times, the use of sizeable machinery and the cure times. Our MuteCradle™ Packers come in a range of sizes to help in fine-tuning any unevenness in the concrete floor.
Also, if you are creating a work environment that needs the use of an access floor, then our MuteCradle™ will help to provide this, helping to store away servicing while offering a robust soundproofing system. With the search for an effective replacement for screed, one that offers premium soundproofing benefits for both airborne and impact, with one that is easy the install, then it is our MuteCradle™. As one of the key properties above, MuteCradle™ gives you maximum separation while offering minimum points of contact. It is then important to treat between the battens like you would a joist flooring, this is so that all resonant and flanking issues in the void are treated. MuteCradle™ can be combined with a wide range of our products, our MuteMat Pro systems, for example, will offer all other properties in this system, and would yield high performance for both impact and airborne noise, even with use in a concrete build (these have a great mass).
The characteristics of sound isolation are to stop, or at least minimise vibration and impact transferring into the structure as they can travel great distances in concrete buildings, and for timber ones too. MuteCradle™ is the creation of a moulded polypropylene cradle with our MuteMat™ OSF 750-10 bonded to the base. This offers a stronger core that provides increased static deflection properties, ones that provide more exceptional support of weight over neoprene alternatives, as incredible loads would need applying to see any deformity.

MuteCradle™ is designed for sound proofing concrete floors, but will also help in timber constructions - it’s acoustic performance is greater in concrete because the padding is a dense rubber matting to ensure that the new floating floor remains stable and level, this dense pad means that it’s performance can often be less effective in timber builds. Acoustic cradles provide separation and minimal points of contact with the substrate which is effective against impact noise issues.
Each cradle houses the timber stud framing to create an effective air gap to accommodate sound insulating acoustic mineral wool between them to reduce airborne noise issues by decoupling from the structural floor and treating the cavity, performance can be improved further by installing additional dense acoustic floor boarding such as our MuteDeck™ or acoustic underlays such as MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3.
MuteCradle™ is perfect for use in audio control rooms, recording studios and has been specified for use in cinema rooms to help float the floor away from the substrate, issues in these scenarios are when a subwoofer is in place and would often transfer low frequencies in to the structure with direct contact with the flooring, causing these low frequency vibrations to bypass acoustic wall systems - this can be a difficult issue to solve in retrospect and this is why we recommend the use of an acoustic cradling to reduce this from happening at an early stage.
Acoustic Cradles are also often used to soundproof homes in concrete structures where maximum impact reduction is sought after, we often find that cradles are a good option to where the structure has dips, troughs and stepped levelling in places where applying a screed level is difficult or costly, and where sound proofing needs to be considered under Part E Building Regulations or Scottish Building Regulations, which require higher values to be achieved for both impact and airborne insulation.
It is also a popular option for sound proofing large sports halls as well as other uses that include office soundproofing as it helps to accommodate servicing that may need to be installed underneath the flooring.
Mute Cradle™ can be alternated to accommodate different levels across a single floor layout, for example small steps can be factored in without any additional work required to the structure. There are also cradle packers to help fine tune small fluctuations in the flooring.
