MuteMat® OSF 750-03 is our highly effective and slimmest resilient layer available for managing the reduction of impact noise in over screed concrete constructions. Its recycled rubber-mix content is refined from over 14 tires for each roll, helping to reduce the impact on the planets ever-growing carbon footprint. It's density, resulting in minimal compression is a key component to providing a robust flooring even when it is subjected to high loads, giving you a long lasting and effective solution that can receive a wide range of floor finishes, with no requirement for an overlay, this includes delicate flooring finishes such as ceramic tiling.  If you are seeking soundproofing materials for Timber constructions or looking to achieve even greater impact reduction, we would recommend our MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 for reduction of both airborne and impact noises.

  • 1.3m x 20m x 3mm (26m2)
  • Specialised for retrofit installation.
  • Suitable for concrete structures to effectively attenuate impact noise.
  • Can be installed under a wide range of floor finishes, with no requirement of an overlay.
  • A guaranteed consistent thickness and density.
  • Does not deform, maintains efficiency long term including under heavy loads.
  • Pre-fabricated recycled tire granule mat.
  • Compliant with both Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) and Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 for Scotland for impact transmission.

We are always looking for the best ways to describe to you the world of soundproofing through introducing guides that range from the basic principles of sound, how to best soundproof surfaces and what to look for, and how to understand acoustic test data, and this is only naming a few! We want to help you come to the right decision, so whether this is through the use of our guides or talking to a member of our team - we are here to help!

How to soundproof a floor

A combination of the following will always result in a much improved acoustic performance.

  • Mass: the addition of more substantial materials to reduce sound energy, for example, added layers combined with soundproof plasterboard.
  • Separation: breaking contact with the surface or surfaces through the use of acoustic isolation clips, or stud framing.
  • Damping: the reduction of vibration through the use of flexible, damping materials such as Tecsound.

MuteMat® OSF 750-03 is an over screed solution for the reduction of impact noise. It is its damping of 'footsteps' and others concerning structural-borne vibration that MuteMat® OSF provides. It provides consistent results on concrete, making it ideal for when great quantities need applying over vast areas. Because it has a set amount of compressibility, depending on its load, it will pass Part E Building Regulations for most general use concrete builds. Mass is most often found in the concrete itself and is not likely needed at floor level. For those looking to surpass requirements, we would suggest combining MuteMat® OSF 750-03 with our MuteClip® Systems for ceilings. You want to prevent Flanking Transmission whenever possible, both in timber and concrete builds, and one example here that installation teams often overlook is by installing all the flooring layers tightly against the adjacent walls without a buffer. This vibration then has a clear path for transfer into the wall, moving up or down, leading to inferior results, or even the failure of an acoustic test.

If you are troubled by an extensive range of noises, ones that are intrusive and disruptive, or if you are specifying for a project that wants to be 'future-proofed', you will need to source solutions that combine all of the properties above. Low-frequency content can be found not just with machinery or with amplified music but you will also find these in the human voice,  television sets, with the increasing use of soundbars, and from the impact of closing doors. It is these sounds that require separation from the structure.

We recognise the subjective nature of sound and how we react to each one, and that is why we offer so many variances in our systems. We understand that it is not always possible to incorporate significant losses of space with say, the introduction of a stud frame, so we provide different variances to suit what performance you need, your budget and thickness.

MuteMat® OSF 750-03 requires a Perimeter Edging Band around the perimeter of the room to allow floor layers to adjoin to, helping to reduce the effect of Flanking, which can often be the cause of failures regarding Part E Building Regulations. You will also want to use a Blue Cloth Tape to tape the joins together.

Ceramic / Porcelain Tiles

  • MuteMat® OSF 750-03 to concrete/screed substrate, prime the substrate first with roller coat of ARDEX P82, allow to cure, then bond MuteMat® OSF 750-03 using either ARDEX S 28 or ARDEX X 7001 Mictrotec.
    • If bonding MuteMat® OSF 750-03 to a timber substrate, Ardex AF200 should be used.
  • When you come to lay the tiles, you should prime MuteMat® OSF 750-03 with ARDEX P82, then bed the tile into either ARDEX S28 or ARDEX X 7001 Microtec.
  • Flexi grout should be considered

This product is part of the following systems:

When sound proofing timber sub-floors (this is a ply or MDF layer fixed to the joists) a compressible sound insulation material would is best used for the reduction of impact noise, MuteMat® OSF 750-03 would not offer soundproofing against footsteps, moving of furniture or household goods including washing machines and dishwashers in timber constructions because of its density - it’s properties make it perfect for use in concrete structures.

Take a look at our MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 for floor soundproofing in timber structures.

When a Sound Test is being scheduled regarding Part E Building Regulations or Scottish Building Regulations, it is often required to bond materials to the flooring - you will want to confirm this with Building Control and your acoustic testing engineer.

Where laminate, engineered wood or tiling is to be installed, it is often difficult to find a soundproofing option that does not involve using additional overboarding such as ply of MDF to support them. MuteMat® OSF 750-03 can receive all these flooring options directly on top, you will need to use a Perimeter Edging Strip around the perimeter of each room to butt all floor layers against, negating stage will cause impact noise to transfer in to adjacent walls leading to Flanking Transmission. It’s acoustic performance with these floor finishes laid on top will still be high.

Luxury Vinyl Tiling is becoming increasingly popular due to its ease of maintenance, unlike wooden floor finishes and carpets, and are found requiring a suitable soundproofing option with minimal impact to increasing floor heights. MuteMat® OSF 750-03 can receive a wide range of these luxury vinyl tiling on top with only the need of adhesive to keep it bonded to the flooring, without any bonding this could lead to partial folding and tearing of the vinyl tiling.

Mute Mat™ OSF 750-03 is water, mould and fungal resistant, making it perfect for use soundproofing bathrooms and wetrooms, the benefits of being able to install almost any floor finish on top and not being subject to damage through moisture makes it ideal, especially for large residential and commercial projects, as well as being high performing to satisfy Part E Building Regulations in concrete structures.

MuteMat® OSF 750-03 is best cut with a fresh Stanley blade and a straight edge or metal ruler, always cut away from your body and behind the straight edge.
