MuteMat® Gym 15 – Gym Flooring

MuteMat® Gym 15 is our highly engineered, dual-density gym tile gym floor soundproofing platform. When used in a system it offers an optimal level of protection against both impact transmission and structural borne vibration that is suitable for professional and commercial gyms, small personal gyms at home and even gyms located in the workplace.

This tile has a hard-wearing durable top layer (4mm) with a lower density base (11mm) this helps to ‘cushion’ significant levels of impact noise and vibration. For each acoustic material, you will often find that to achieve specified levels of sound insulation you may need to combine them with other additional elements to create a complete soundproofing system that meets all your needs.

It is important to first understand the structure and what impact a proposed Gym may have to not only its surrounding or adjoining properties but to its internal rooms too. We would always recommend performing a Noise Impact Assessment in proposed Gyms to help survey what level of impact it may have and to assist with the placement of the differentiating areas such as: heavy weight lifting, lighter workout areas such as cardiovascular and wellness sectors that yoga, pilates and other class activities.

One of the most problematic issues to neighbouring properties of Fitness Centres and Gymnasiums is the dropping of weights and repetitive impact noises that little to no protection against them, even the use of light cardio machinery such as treadmills or spin areas can cause problems with impact noise and vibration. MuteMat®Gym 15 is designed for this specific purpose – to reduce structural borne noise and help to prevent disturbances to neighbours of both small home gyms all the way up to professional specialist and commercial gyms which are often found in multi-purpose complexes where residences, restaurants and even shops all share the same structure, and all of which are affected by the effects of structural borne vibration.

Areas that include cardiovascular machinery, general training areas and light free weights would benefit hugely from the installation of MuteMat®Gym 15, it’s ring structure helps limit the amount of contact with floor and provides not only something stable and robust, but also a final floor finish.

Of course, these are not only for large commercial projects – two things to initially consider is first of all the structure, if it is a timber or concrete floor and what you are intending to use. Timber may not be adequate on an upper level to sustain impacts from heavy-weights weights, nor will the reduction be as significant in comparison to concrete. Dropping large, heavy free-weights may require something more substantial to help reduce disturbances to your neighbours.

The design of our MuteMat® Gym 15 product is a 1m x 1m tile to be adhered down and installed in modular form. These will require bonding to the substrate in which you can find all information on adhesives, and which is best to use in a range of applications on our downloads below.

MuteMat® Gym 51 is the perfect solution to help reduce structural borne vibration caused by blunt, heavy impact, but another major consideration is reducing airborne noise through walls and ceilings, and this can often include the ceiling below. Depending on the level of reduction required, suspended ceilings often need to be put in place to reduce vibration further, again this will be something considered in the Noise Impact Assessment. Wall soundproofing is another important consideration as sound will move into the airspace around the room and move directly into the rooms adjacent and causing problematic flanking transmission, and the same for ceilings, ceiling soundproofing also wants to be considered to reduce noise transfer to neighbours above. At this stage, you will want to consider reviewing our MuteClip® Stud Double Plus systems in all wall and ceiling areas.

The design of all our MuteMat® Gym products is a simple Kros Lok pattern set up to be installed in modular form. These will often require bonding to the substrate in which you can find all information on adhesives, and which is best to use in a range of applications on our Related PDFs tab.
