Isolation Strip F5 our flat profile rubber-crumb, self-adhesive strip that is used to decouple structural surfaces. When you are soundproofing a floor, this strip is installed on top of the joist and underneath the subflooring to separate and 'float' the floor. With walls and ceilings, any stud frames will also need this separation from the adjacent surfaces to reduce structural-borne vibration transferring into the new soundproofing partition.

How to soundproof floors, walls and ceilings.

A combination of the following will always result in a much improved acoustic performance.


  • Mass: the addition of more substantial materials to reduce sound energy, for example, added layers combined with soundproof plasterboard.
  • Separation: breaking contact with the surface or surfaces through the use of acoustic isolation clips or stud framing.
  • Damping: the reduction of vibration through the use of flexible, damping materials such as Tecsound.


Isolation Strip P5 is an important addition for any installation of stud framing to which will come into contact with floors, walls or ceiling. Decoupling or separating these surfaces will reduce the amount of Flanking Transmission transferring into the stud frame, and will help to boost impact reduction on floors by applying directly to joists. We use Isolation Strips in all of our timber flooring systems when the existing floor can be removed and in our 'Stud' wall or floor systems. For an upgrade that can lose an extra 3mm, we have our Isolation Strip P8 available which is a pimpled structure to help provide additional compression and fewer points of contact.


We understand that it is not always possible to factor in the significant loss of space that the introduction of isolated stud frames or the use of acoustic cradles, so we provide different variances to suit what performance you need, your budget and thickness.

With metal and timber stud frames, it isn’t just the use of sound insulation materials that help to provide additional sound proofing, but also the separation from adjacent surfaces. Isolation Strips deviated structures offers fewer points of contact between the frame and floor, wall and ceiling. Our Isolation Strip is perfect for this use, and we highly recommend using this with the construction of any new stud framing,

Isolation Strip is also very efficient at reducing impact noise between the sub-floor and the timber joist, this will help to improve the acoustic system, again, it’s the use of the deviated structure, and it’s rubber crumb construction that helps to soften footfall and to reduce it transferring into the joist and the walls. It has a self-adhesive backing that will help it remain in place when fitted to the joist, and you will need to make sure it is as dust free as possible.

Because of its self-adhesive backing, it can be used to suspend surfaces away from each other to help prevent vibration transferring through, this quality is essential for sound proofing cinema rooms, recording studios and even in combination with washing machines or other household appliances.
