MuteClip® Channel is only compatible with our MuteClip®, the reason for this is that the design maintains a return lip to hold substantially more weight as the MuteClip® clasps onto this, it cannot be used as a resilient channel, please see our blog entry on the use of Resilient Channels.

MuteClip® Channel is part of iKoustic's MuteRange core - these are products that been subjected to stringent testing in both laboratory and real world environments providing the best possible solution for the purpose with a result you can trust.

How to Soundproof a Ceiling and How to Soundproof a Wall

When considering Wall and Ceiling Soundproofing there are a few basic principles you need to be aware of when looking to achieve the best possible result. Initially you will need to increase the mass of the partition to begin noticing a reduction in airborne noise, but to yield the best reduction for high levels of airborne noise, as well as impact noise, you will want to consider creating seperatation from the structure to by implementing our MuteClip® and Channel System direct to stud or brick and block walls. You can improve this further by applying it to a completely separate stud frame.

If you are uncertain of what to look for when soundproofing a wall or ceiling, you can read our informal guides - A Guide to Soundproofing a Wall or A Guide to Soundproofing a Ceiling by clicking on the icons below.

MuteClip® Wall Installation

The MuteClip® and Channel System can be applied in two methods depending on the level of reduction you are looking to achieve;

  • Direct to Brick/Block wall (80mm loss of space)
  • Timber/Metal Framework, we would recommend timber wherever possible to reduce any resonances within the metal work (150 - 200mm loss of space dependent on stud depth)

With a ceiling configuration, we would recommend removal of existing ceiling for a secure fit into the bottom of the joists.

MuteClip® Channel cannot be used as a resilient channel, this is because it is no created with a single fixing point, nor does it offer the same mechanical functions as resilient channel - it works in combination only with our MuteClip®. you can view our blog post on resilient channels effectiveness and problems encountered when they are used in sound proofing situations.

We advise that you use Mute Clip® Channel with our MuteClip® to ensure security and stability, any alternative channels you opt to use will not be guaranteed with iKoustic and will be at your own risk.

Joist Toppers are generally installed on top of a joist to securely place acoustic plasterboard between joists, we offer many floor soundproofing alternatives to this method - MuteClip® Channel is not suitable for use in this way.
