MuteClip® Channel

Our MuteClip® isolation clip systems deliver the highest standard of soundproofing we offer. Isolation clips and channels are used to build a ‘de-coupled’ frame for wall and ceiling soundproofing. Plasterboard or other soundproofing materials can be installed onto this ‘de-coupled’ frame.

The MuteClip® is backed with dual-density silicone. This acts as a shock absorber surrounding the fixing and buffering the metal clip. The MuteClip Channel is then ‘clicked’ into the MuteClip® providing a slimline and ‘de-coupled’ frame for plasterboards to be attached to.

All of this works to reduce the sound vibrations able to transfer through your wall or ceiling and into your space.

Wall Stud Center

The wall stud center is the distance between stud uprights. The typical stud upright is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Wall Channel Center

The wall channel center is the distance between the horizontal MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 600mm. If you are working directly on a brick wall we recommend using a 600mm spacing here also.

Ceiling Joist Center

The ceiling joist center is the distance between ceiling joists measured from the center. The typical ceiling joist is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

Ceiling Channel Center

The ceiling channel center is the distance between the MuteClip Channels. The typical channel center is 400mm. If you are working directly on a concrete ceiling we recommend using a 400mm spacing here also.

  • If you have multiple adjacent surfaces or partitions to soundproof input them individually. Not as a total m2 input as this will affect the results.
  • If you have windows, fireplaces or other fixed structures we recommend booking a call with us before purchasing.
Ceiling soundproofing calculator
Ceiling ‘Width’

For the calculator the width of a ceiling is the measurement that runs perpendicular with your existing ceiling joists.

Ceiling ‘Height’

For the purposes of this calculator height refers to the measurement that runs parallel with your existing ceiling joists.

Tin Snips

Easy to cut to size

Every wall is different so we’ve made sure MuteClip® Channel can be cut to size with ease, either snip the shoulders with tin snips or saw through with a hack saw.

Clip and channel vs stud frame

Thinner than a stud frame

The completed clip and channel system has a width of just 40mm. When finished with a single layer of acoustic plasterboard and acoustic mineral wool on masonry wall that’s just 55mm for a 54dB* Noise reduction. A huge difference in sound!

MuteClip Channel and clip

Ease of install features

A returned edge rounds sharp edges making them easier to handle. The top face of the MuteClip® channel is knurled for easy of fixing. Simply squeeze the channel into your clips for a satisfying click into place!

MuteClip® Channel cannot be used as a resilient channel, this is because it is no created with a single fixing point, nor does it offer the same mechanical functions as resilient channel – it works in combination only with our MuteClip®. you can view our blog post on resilient channels effectiveness and problems encountered when they are used in sound proofing situations.

The total thickness is 40mm combined.

We advise that you use MuteClip® Channel with our MuteClip® to ensure security and stability, any alternative channels you opt to use will not be guaranteed with iKoustic and will be at your own risk.

Joist Toppers are generally installed on top of a joist to securely place acoustic plasterboard between joists, we offer many floor soundproofing alternatives to this method – MuteClip® Channel is not suitable for use in this way.

It all depends on which of our systems MuteClip® is incorporated into and what is currently in place, for example, a concrete or brick wall will offer solid support for soundproofing whereas breezeblock is often very porous, meaning that it allows an increased degree of airflow through, allowing the property to breathe. Stud framing offers the least soundproofing but creates an air gap which works in favour of each soundproof system and would require Acoustic Mineral Wool to be put in place to offer this improvement. We provide estimations of performance in our acoustic results, but it is important to note that every property will behave differently – we are always updating our acoustic results where possible.
