MuteMat™ USP 600-17 is our best performing and most robust pimpled acoustic underscreed resilient layer designed for achieving the maximum level of impact reduction between the floating concrete screed and structural concrete slab layers; it's high performance comes from it's deviated pimpled structure which are found at both 10mm and 17mm - helping to secure minimum points of contact between the two layers. As a dense and robust product it maintains a low level of compressibility and when subjected to high points loads it maintains it's acoustic performance making it suitable for a wide range of applications in residential, commercial and industrial structures, especially where particular low frequency noise issues and machinery operation is concerned, this is tailored to reduce acoustic issues such as these at a superb level of performance.

Although MuteMat™ USP is high performing in concrete builds it can also be implemented in other builds including timber to create a floating floor, with the additional benefit to lay floor finishes direct on top. How to Soundproof a Floor

With soundproofing screeding layers you will require a dense acoustic underscreed product such as our MuteMat™ USP. Due to the dense molecular construction and high mass of concrete this results in impact and low frequency noise issues travelling further,  a material with a high compressibility will present satisfactory results initially but as it crushes overtime the majority of the acoustic performance will be lost resulting in costly remedial works. Depending on your requirements it may be necessary to couple with our MuteClip™ System ceiling range to ensure an increased impact performance and airborne performance, we have a range of options depending on what your project is aiming to achieve, as well as considerations regarding space lost.

For Gym Soundproofing we suggest combining MuteMat™ USP with our DuraSound range for best acoustic performance.

Concrete constructions are made up of a structural concrete slab which is a blend of sharp, uneven aggregates - leaving a rough finish,  a screed layer is then applied over the top to levelling out the unevenness to leave a smoother finish. In most cases, and especially in large residential structures, before the screeding stage most will  specify the use of an under screed soundproofing material to assist in floating away the screed from the structural concrete to sound proof the floor against impact noise. Concrete is very effective at reducing airborne noise issues because of it’s incredible mass, where impact noise will tend to travel further and flanks through any connected paths because of the amount of direct contact, this is called Flanking Transmission.

MuteMat™ USP 600-17 is a pimpled sound proofing material that deviates between two levels to provide minimal points of contact with the sub-floor and the floor finish, and because of this structure it can be used on a timber structure to treat problematic impact noise issues that require maximum separation. It is recommended to cross-fix two layers of 6mm ply, glued and screwed to the top of the MuteMat™ USP 600-17 to give a level and stable base for flooring to be installed. This can be used in small personal gym areas at home alongside our specified gym sound proofing products where timber structures would often suffer from the excessive impact noise that weight drops or use of treadmills generate. Recording studios and other audio environments also generate a high degree of low frequency content which needs separation in the structure to soundproof it efficiently by reducing the direct paths these low frequencies can travel through with ease.

Mute Mat™ USP 600-17 requires no adhesive in structural concrete and screed scenarios, it is simple rolled out and taped and butted against a Perimeter Edging Strip which is required to line each room to reduce Flanking Transmission - it is now ready for a screed layer. For direct application of floor finishes like engineer wood, laminate or luxury vinyl tile as examples, we would would recommend the installation of two layers of 6mm ply cross-fixed with glue and screw to leave a stable base.

This will often be for the specifier to decide on whether if it is required or not.
